Halloween is admittedly a kitschy holiday, but that’s no reason to throw sophistication out the window. Excited to mix a drink yet? Read below for a few sophisticated Halloween cocktails that get our sip of approval.
Apples and tequila make for a deadly combination…
• 2 ounces apple cider
• 1 ounce pomegranate juice
• 2 ounces tequila
• Several chips of dry ice (Tip: Keep the chips small enough to dissolve quickly. I like to plop them in before I serve the drinks, so there’s no risk of guests getting frostbite from a chunk of dry ice!)
3 ounces Pisco Brandy
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
1½ tablespoons granulated sugar
Dash of Angostura bitters
optional: Dry ice (see note)
In a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice, combine brandy, juices, and sugar. Cover, shake vigorously for 15 seconds, and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with a few drops of bitters. Add some dry ice for a spooky effect.
2 ounces Hard Cider
1 ounce Whiskey (I used Bourbon)
Ginger ale, to fill
In a 12-16 ounce tumbler or high ball glass, combine the hard cider and whiskey. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Fill with ginger ale.
1 oz spiced rum
1/2 oz Fernet Branca
1 1/2 oz crème de cacao
1/8 teaspoon squid ink (optional)
1/2 oz chocolate stout
This cocktail may bite back a little, but it sure is refreshing. To make this delectable potion, you’ll need: 2 oz. blackberry juice, 1 oz. simple syrup and 1 oz. vodka and ice. Fill a highball glass with ice, add ingredients, stir and serve.
1 ounce Scotch, blended
1 ounce cherry liqueur (preferably Cherry Heering)
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1 ounce orange juice, freshly squeezed
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake.
Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
